Job Description:
We are looking for someone in the area with management or supervisory experience in Consumer Loan Underwriting experience.
Provides leadership and direction to Consumer Lending/Consumer Indirect underwriters ensuring that efficient, timely, sound and compliant lending decisions are made within scope of lending authority. Ensures compliance with state and federal lending laws. Assists in the overall administration of the Underwriting department.
Principal Duties and
Responsibilities:
Sets production and service goals for consumer underwriting staff. Directs the performance of the staff through effective coaching, training and performance appraisals to achieve established goals and service levels.
Serves as escalation point for staff, members and dealers regarding complex consumer loans or loans above the underwriter's lending authority. Researches and resolves member/dealer loan disputes/complaints in a timely manner and communicates results verbally and/or in writing to ensure loan quality, member satisfaction, and appropriate resolution of issues.
Maintains up-to-date knowledge, understanding and documentation of required State and Federal guidelines related to consumer underwriting and lending. Ensures regular and timely communication of required process changes to all areas involved in loans products and process.
Ensures timely assignment and decision on loan requests and thorough follow-up as appropriate. Ensures that a thorough and timely quality control review is completed on consumer underwriting decisions to ensure compliance with internal and other applicable regulatory agencies and that all identified quality issues are effectively resolved.
Analyzes consumer underwriting work flow and processes and develops methods to improve productivity and service delivery in order to achieve the timely processing of applications in line with approved lending policies and procedures. Assists in development, testing, implementation and support of software applications and other projects that involve loan underwriting.
Acts as system administrator for consumer loan processing systems. This includes updating the systems in line with process, procedure or policy changes, tracking quality and percentage of automated loan decisions, gathering data from the system to be used for management reporting, and monitoring approval ratio and credit quality.
Manages the implementation of new consumer loan products by obtaining required legal review, documenting product characteristics and developing procedures, integrating the product into existing software applications, and ensuring that staff is adequately trained in a timely manner to ensure that the product is integrated error free within existing processes and that staff understands product characteristics and procedures.
Ensures that staff collaborates effectively with Express Services, Indirect Sales, Loan Servicing, Collections, Marketing and Branch functions in order to resolve lending issues or problems, provide timely service to members, and ensure that credit quality standards are maintained.
Develops, analyzes, and completes monthly reports in order to track and monitor production and profitability against stated objectives and underwriter quality against established standards.
Supervises the monthly analysis of credit card/line of credit loans, which are identified for review by specific credit bureau criteria to sustain the quality of the overall consumer loan portfolio.
Reviews Loan Policy and Procedural Manual for necessary revisions; makes recommendations for change to ensure current lending policies and procedures are accurately documented and disseminated to appropriate credit union staff.

Education and Training:
Bachelor's Degree in business or related field or equivalent work experience.
Prior
Experience:
Minimum 3 - 5 years prior experience underwriting Consumer Loans with lending authority or equivalent experience in auto financing industry. Experience with Indirect Lending and supervisory/management experience preferred.
Other Special Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of the principles of loan underwriting, products, processes, procedures, and regulations.
Knowledge of relevant governmental laws, regulations, and compliance issues pertaining to credit unions.
Knowledge of vehicle titles and state lien requirements.
Knowledge of financial institution software applications as applied to Lending and collateralization functions.
Knowledge of credit bureau terminology
Ability to analyze statistical data.
Ability to write reports and business correspondence.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, to ensure complete understanding and comprehension of the intent and content of the communication.
Ability to present information clearly and effectively when addressing individuals or groups of people.
Ability to master and utilize software applications underwriting and lending software/systems.
Bottom Line Requirements:
